The Application Process

Fei Tian has a rolling admissions policy and accepts applications year-round. Students interested in pursuing studies at Fei Tian Academy of the Arts should submit their completed application packages three months prior to the start of the academic session in which they intend to first enroll.

APPLICATION PACKAGE

A completed application package includes:

  • A completed application form;
  • Payment to cover the application fee in the amount of $40 (domestic) or $80 (international) — waived for the current year;
  • An official copy of transcripts or report cards for all previous primary/secondary level studies;
  • A copy of the child’s birth certificate and passport biographic data page;
  • A copy of the child’s immunization records;

Submitted applications are processed by the Office of Admissions and Records and forwarded to the appropriate department for evaluation. Admission and placement are based on a thorough evaluation using information from the application form, previous transcripts, recommendation, and an audition to be scheduled by the appropriate department.

AUDITIONS

After passing the initial screening based on the completed application package, applicants and their parents or legal guardians will be scheduled for a live audition or interview. Fei Tian auditions dance and music students beginning with grade 5.

Audition Procedure for Dance

The Fei Tian dance audition focuses on a combination of dance styles and techniques. The dance audition takes approximately one hour. Students will be expected to perform movement combinations under the instruction of the audition panel. Students do not need to prepare a solo, and previous training is not required to be considered for the Beginner-level class. Applicants will be evaluated on their potential for a career in dance, physique and body alignment, coordination and flexibility, rhythmic accuracy, and ability to reproduce movement combinations.

Audition Procedure for Music

The Fei Tian music audition focuses on a combination of solo performance, scales, and sight-reading. The music audition takes approximately half an hour. Applicants will be expected to perform from memory one solo (except for piano as noted below) from the Baroque, Classical, or Romantic periods. Students should bring the scores to the audition. Piano accompaniment is optional, but applicants can make an advance request to the school for an accompanist. Students should be familiar with all clefs in common use for their instrument. Students will be asked to sight-read a selected excerpt of the audition panel’s choosing.

Piano applicants are expected to play by memory two or three solos from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods. They should also prepare major and minor scales and arpeggios, for at least two octaves, hands together. In addition, they will be asked to sight-read two selections of the panel’s choosing.

NOTIFICATION AND ACCEPTANCE

Fei Tian will notify applicants of the admissions decisions and next steps within approximately one month after the audition and interview. International applicants will be given information on the F-1 student visa, including instructions on how to apply for an I-20 from Fei Tian.

Those who accept an offer of admission to Fei Tian should understand that they may be placed in a grade level different from their level in the previous school. In particular, those not yet performing at the required level for their age may be placed in a lower grade.

A probationary period of one year is required for all new students. Parents or legal guardians will be notified of any concerns or any recommended changes in placement by the end of the first year of the student’s attendance at Fei Tian.

Any application found to contain false information may result in the student being denied enrollment or being immediately dismissed from the school.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Fei Tian Academy of the Arts is authorized under Federal law to enroll international students in the F-1 nonimmigrant visa classification. Fei Tian welcomes students with artistic promise from outside the United States as long as they audition and enroll as described in this section.

Admitted international students will need an F-1 student visa to study at Fei Tian. See the International Student Information section for details.

International applicants and students are encouraged to explore the official Study in the States website (https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov) for more information.
