Alternatively, the hard copy application package may be mailed to the school.
Submitted applications are processed by the Office of Admissions and Records and forwarded to the appropriate department for evaluation. Academic requirements are only a threshold to admission. Admission and placement are based mainly on the results of the personal interview and live audition, to be scheduled by the individual departments. The Office of Admissions and Records will notify applicants whether they are invited for an audition and interview.
The Fei Tian dance audition focuses on a combination of dance styles and techniques and typically lasts under an hour. Applicants will be expected to perform movement combinations under the instruction of a judging panel. Applicants do not need to prepare a solo, and previous training is not required to be considered for the basic level class. Applicants will be evaluated on their potential for a career in dance, physique and body alignment, coordination and flexibility, rhythmic accuracy, and the ability to reproduce movement combinations.
The Fei Tian music audition focuses on a combination of solo performance, scales, and sight-reading and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Applicants will be expected to play by memory one solo (except as noted below) from the Baroque, Classical, or Romantic periods. Applicants must bring one copy of their solo scores for the judging panel. Piano accompaniment is optional, but applicants must make an advance request to the school in order to be provided an accompanist. Applicants should be familiar with all clefs in common use for their instrument. Applicants will be asked to sight-read a selection of the panel’s choosing.
Piano applicants will be expected to play by memory two or three solos from different periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic). They should also prepare major and minor scales, four octaves, and hands together. In addition, applicants will be asked to sight-read two selections.
Notification and Acceptance
Fei Tian will notify applicants of the admissions decisions and next steps within approximately one month after the audition and interview. International applicants will be given information on the F-1 student visa, including instructions on how to apply for an I-20 from Fei Tian.
Those who are admitted to the school should understand that they may be placed in a grade level different from that in their previous school. Those not yet performing at the required level for their age may be placed in a lower grade.
Applicants who wish to accept admission to Fei Tian will be required to complete the enrollment process with the Office of Admissions and Records.
A probationary period of one year is required for all newly admitted students. Parents will be notified of concerns or any recommended changes in placement by the end of the student’s probationary period at Fei Tian.
Any application found to contain false information may result in the student being denied admission from the school and any diploma awarded may be revoked.
